Question

When is the next Off Beat Cinema movie listings (PDF format) for the Buffalo market going to be posted?
Poe Man Poe

Saturday, 07/19/2008: "Who's Lips Are These?" (B&W) 1951 starring Dwight Frye and Myrna Loy. They find out the identity of the guy who left his lips at the Rod and Gun Club. Limited showing in Buffalo only. I give it a 4 outta 5.

Tuesday July 8th, 4 am. "Poon Adder Shakes It". Shown only in Monroeville and on select, specially programmed Etch A Sketches.
Poe Man Poe

Saturday 07/26/2008: "She Called It French" (1939) B&W starring Brigette Trundgeon and Yves Montand as a married couple who have their honeymoon interupted when Poonwah (Montand) becomes involved in a scheme to burglarize a whorehouse. The plot is a bit slow to develop but the movie is redeemed by a terrific musical score created by the legendary Jean Plewktoe. I give it a 3 outta 5.

I need the same information for Off Beat Cinema on RTN. I need it to let others know what's playing on the best TV movie show anywhere.
Poe Man Poe

Saturday, 04/17/2009- according to the RTN schedule..."Sheila Uses a Roll-On" (1937) B&W starring Rinaldo Fantoon and Zasu Pitts as the hapless couple who discover that their spiritual advisor, Sheila (played to the hilt by Agnes Moorehead) utilizes an alternate deodorant. Pandemonium ensues when the couple conspire to steal Sheila's dress sheilds. This is one of my favorites. I was given a DVD copy by Maxwell. It had a sticky substance on it, but it wiped right off with some Windex.

2009-04-17:  "Jumpy and the Coke Whore" (1981)  starring Ned Beatty, Kathy Lee Gifford, Cleavon Little, and Joseph Mengele.  Self explanatory, but insouciant plot about a Don Knotts-like character (Beatty) and his drug-addled prostitute mother, played with surprising conviction by the otherwise utterly objectionable and talent-free Gifford.  Mom takes the F train by accident, while sonny scours NYC for his impaired mother while hijinx and shenanigans ensue.  Minimal hilarity owing largely to Beatty's lack of the requisite nervous energy - in fact, the only jittery thing about him is his dewlap, which jiggles distractingly throughout the film.  Several inexplicable close-ups of said dewlap, presumably for comedic effect, fall flat.  Mr. Little's formidable talents are wasted here - he spends the bulk of his onscreen time in a rickshaw pulled by Mengele, expounding upon topics various and sundry, including but not limited to sharters, flapjacks, spondeens and their homeland, a tiny Nosferatu with Martin Van Buren-like hair and a penchant for charades, and the aroma of dead clowns.  Surreal, yes.  Entertaining?  Not particularly.  The entire movie has the feel of a gag reel wherein the gags aren't funny or are incomplete in some fashion.  Mengele's presence is particularly puzzling as the film began principal photography more than a year after his death.  Two bananas short of a flap, or at the very least, a flap short of a bundle.

My favourite Ned Beatty performance to date hands down is still Deliverance,  real cheeky performance by Ned.

May 2nd, 2009. "Who Wet These Sheets?" (1979) Made for TV.
Ned Beatty and Robert Reid star as two door to door salesman who end up spending the night in a Bed & Breakfast as a storm rages. With Tony Dow as the Innkeeper and Frank "Lumpy Rutherford" Bank as the crazy janitor who lives in the furnace room. Cameo by an obviously highly inebriated Cleavon Little who said in Variety "I did it for the cash. And the chance to work with Frank Bank".
4 Risers out of 5. Watch it in Poe's living room. When he's not home.
